I came up with the idea for the Cabin Bed when I wanted to make Logan a tree house but we didn’t have a suitable tree to put one in. So…. I bought some lumber and started piecing things together in our garage. When I was through, I had something that Logan loved! Our friends suggested that I make the Cabin Beds and sell them…. that’s where I am now 🙂

I created plans for two sizes of Cabin Beds, Queen and Twin XL. Both of the designs are incredibly sturdy and are modular for easy assembly/movement. The beds feature a solid upper platform (as opposed to slats found in most bunk beds) allowing multiple mattress sizes to be placed up top. The twin Cabin Bed can support a standard twin or twin-XL mattress with a little extra room on the side for a clock, books, remote, water… etc. This extra room also makes it easier to change the sheets. The queen Cabin Bed can hold a queen, full, twin-XL or standard twin mattress. The picture below shows a twin mattress on the queen Cabin Bed leaving plenty of room for toys, books, lamps or whatever else is needed to round out your child’s Cabin Bed experience.

Queen Cabin Bed Dimensions:

  • Height 78-3/4″
  • Width 87-1/2″
  • Depth 67-1/2″

Twin Cabin Bed Dimensions:

  • Height 78-3/4″
  • Width 87-1/2″
  • Depth 48″

The plans include a detailed buy list and all of the materials can be found at Lowe’s or Home Depot. I made the design super simple and no prior woodworking experience is necessary. This is a great project to complete with your kids and is sure to elevate you to “hero” status in their minds 🙂

Have fun building and let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks!
